Whether you’re planning a trip across the world, or just being a tourist in your own city we can all do our part to be more sustainable travelers. If you have love for this world (which you likely do if you’re traveling to see it) it’s important to think about the products we are using and ensure that we are making eco-friendly choices, starting with the products we use!
There are tons of ways to be a more sustainable traveler, but in this post we are going to share with you some of our top travel products that are environmentally mindful. We know these are small choices to make, and there’s a ton of things that may make a larger impact. But, we firmly believe that small changes eventually lead to big changes.
Reusable plastic bags
Not sure about you, but plastic bags were something I would always pack when I traveled. They come in handy for so many reasons! Whether it’s to store your toiletries, dirty clothes, or new souvenirs, they help you stay organized and they are just great to have. So, why not use these reusable bags?! They will save you money, they clean up easily in case of a spill, and they help the environment.
Reusable water bottle
The list of reasons you should always bring a reusable water bottle could go on and on. If you only purchase one sustainable product, let it be this. It will save you money, help the planet, and keep you hydrated at the same time!
Menstrual cup
If you read our post about must-have female travel products, you already saw this on that list. But, we had to put it here again. This is a definitely a sustainable travel product that all females should try out. Besides just being eco-friendly, it’s life changing not to have to pack loads of tampons or frantically look around to find them when you arrive in your destination.
Reusable cutlery
It’s getting more and more common to see people traveling with their own reusable cutlery kit. Such an easy thing to pack because it doesn’t take up much space in your bag. There are loads of different options, from bamboo to stainless steel. Most come in these handy little pouches to keep things organized. Another benefit is that they are more sanitary, since they are your own! Something that is at the forefront of our minds after the pandemic.
Solid toiletries
If you haven’t tried out shampoo and conditioner bars, hear me out. They are a packing and travel game changer. They last forever, leave your hair smooth and soft, and take up virtually no space in your bag. Plus, they also don’t leak all over the inside of your suitcase and they help the environment, using a lot less plastic than regular shampoo or conditioner. Over the last few years, tons of different brands have popped up, so you have tons of options to choose from and figure out what works best for your hair.
Suitcase/luggage made from recycled products
Packing can be a pain in the booty. It’s always a bit stressful deciding what to bring for a trip, even if you are a pro-packer with all the packing knowledge. One thing you shouldn’t have to stress about is what you’re actually packing your things into. There are so many options out there for eco-friendly suitcase options, many are even made from recycled materials!
E-reader
I love to catch up on reading when I travel. Whether I’m on a long flight, stuck in an airport, or just sitting at a foreign coffee shop. One thing I don’t like, is trying to pack all the books I want to read and then when I finish, having to lug them around or figure out what to do with them. The kindle makes it so much easier to pack endless books with me! It also saves the problem of purchasing tons of books and then getting rid of them when I finish!
Reusable straw
If you don’t have your own reusable straw yet, you need this! It’s only $4 and it’s so easy to pack and take with you everywhere. Just like with the reusable cutlery, there are tons of options to choose from and virtually every material (stainless steel, bamboo, glass, etc.). So, you can choose whichever is best for you!
Reusable tote bag
Having a tote bag is a life saver in a lot of travel situations. Whether it’s for buying groceries, going to the beach, or just wandering around town.
